Elite Lab Services improves turnaround time to nursing home customers with CyberLAB®
Challenge
Elite's legacy system created for the company could no longer keep up with the demands of the rapidly expanding laboratory's focus on serving nursing homes. Capacity had reached its absolute limit.
Solution
Aspyra implemented the CyberLAB® Laboratory Information System (LIS) with its extensive Standing Orders module at Elite.
Results
The entire pace and efficiency of the business increased markedly. Immediate improvements were evident in the scheduling of standing orders and the billing of mileage.
Elite Laboratory Services, located in Tyler, Texas, serves nursing homes within a 250 to 300 mile radius of Tyler. The nursing homes range from 20-bed to 100-bed facilities. The 7.2 CyberLAB system with the Standing Orders module was implemented at Elite's facility in January 2009.
"The CyberLAB system has helped tremendously," said Allan Johnston, Elite's LIS manager, as he described the turnaround time. "It has changed the entire flow of the business. It is definitely more efficient." CyberLAB is a comprehensive, browser-based LIS system that provides a complete, end-to-end solution for laboratories, from entry of the ordered test to laboratory results and a variety of reports. The seven core modules are enhanced with optional modules, such as Standing Orders and Microbiology.
"The CyberLAB system is working just fine and so is Standing Orders," said Johnston.
Phlebotomists travel to the nursing homes serviced by Elite to obtain and pick up patient specimens for standing order tests. The Standing Orders module allows the company to set up routes for efficient pickup and to record the mileage that is used for Medicare billing. Johnston said the mileage accumulation feature has "absolutely helped" the billing process.
"Overall, we are very happy with the software," he added. "When I have minor issues, Aspyra does a good job of resolving them. When I run into problems, they take care of it."
