A laboratory information system (LIS) must be cost-effective, efficient, and flexible for laboratories that serve nursing homes and the community doctors whose patients reside in the nursing homes. Doctors can have standing lab orders for tests that are scheduled at a specific date or repeated at specific futures dates. The standing orders module tracks one or multiple standing orders, each with different ordered tests and frequencies.

When the lab sends a phlebotomist to nursing homes to collect specimens for the tests, the CyberLAB system lists patients efficiently according to collection routes.

There are two major efficiencies when the phlebotomist returns to the lab with the specimens: The collected specimens can be quickly logged into the system in batches, and an option lets the phlebotomist record the miles driven, which enables the lab to be reimbursed for mileage.
